libby and derek's engagement photos

Libby and Derek are such a fun couple and we had a great time during their engagement session. We went to Morris Ave. and the Botanical Gardens—talk about two different locations! It totally worked though and we got a great mix of photos. Check out their slideshow and see below for their answers to the blog survey. I can’t wait for their wedding this winter! Enjoy!

How you met?/First date?
It all started on our first day at UAB at the Rast Hall Dance Party. A mutual friend introduced us and we began spending time together since we had many of the same friends and we happened to live on the same floor as each other. A few weeks later, both being members of the Honors Program, we ended up at a free Tuesday night movie at the Spencer Honors House together, obviously both interested in something more than friendship. Who knew 4 years later we would be holding our wedding reception in the same building!?

First time you knew this person was the one?
Libby: I knew early on that Derek was my soulmate. From the beginning, I was so comfortable with him and we were so natural together. I can’t quite pinpoint an exact moment.
Derek: I knew that Libby was the one when I finally decided that she deserved to see how weird I can be, and it turned out that she was just as strange as I am.

Describe the proposal.
After a weekend of rigorous studying for the many exams of the week to come, Derek decided that we should go do something outside since the weather was extremely nice and mild for February. So we hopped in the car with our study materials and headed out to Oak Mountain State Park. I was very excited because although I've lived in Birmingham my entire life, I'd rarely explored Oak Mountain and was anxious to check it out. So we entered the park and drove for a long time, finally reaching the trail to Peavine Falls. After attempting a treacherous vertical drop to the falls and walking a mile out of the way, encountering a terrifying black snake along the way, we finally reached our destination. We hiked up to a rock that overlooked the falls, which were absolutely stunning, and Derek whipped out some of my favorite sushi for a surprise picnic. At this point, I began to get a little suspicious and after our lunch, Derek slid down to one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes!

Date we will always remember.
Libby: This wasn’t exactly a date, but the second Christmas we were together, I went home to London, Ontario with Derek and his family for Christmas. One night, we all went out to dinner and went ice skating at an outdoor plaza in Victoria Park afterwards. The park was covered in Christmas lights and decorations and there was a faint snowfall throughout the evening. It was perfect.
Derek: Among many other unforgettable dates, I will always remember a date that Libby took me on to Nashville. She took me to Fleming’s Steakhouse to get the most delicious steak I’ve ever had. Then we went to see a Nashville Predators hockey game. She knows me so well.
