Libby and Derek's wedding

Libby and Derek's wedding was earlier this month at St. Andrews Church in downtown Birmingham with a reception at the UAB Honors House. It was a beautiful ceremony, a gorgeous (and cold!) day, and a really fun reception. Libby and Derek were so much fun to be around. They really enjoyed their wedding—which is how it should be! Favorite part of the wedding?

Our band was absolutely fantastic! They made for a completely rockin’ reception, which is exactly what we wanted. I’ve always said that I wanted to dance all night at my wedding and I was so glad that I got to!

Funniest moment of wedding day?

GreenMan made an appearance. Definitely a crowd pleaser :)

Most memorable part of the wedding or whole wedding process?

As a whole, I liked being 100% in charge of the process. Though it was stressful at times, and my bridesmaids and I set up the entire reception the day of, I felt such a sense of accomplishment and ownership when I began to get rave reviews about the entire day. Plus, it was a lot of fun tackling all of the details with my best friends and with Derek!

3 adjectives to describe the day?

Relaxed. Joyful. Perfect.

Weather on your wedding day?

Absolutely freezing! But luckily the sun was shining all day, so at least we don’t look too cold in all of our pictures!

Why do you love your husband?

His personality balances mine perfectly. He is the best person I’ve ever met. He knows exactly how to make me laugh and lift me up when I’m feeling down. Being with him is so easy and the past 5 years with him have just flown by. I’m so lucky to have such an awesome person to grow old with!

Why do you love your wife?

She is my favorite person to spend time with. No matter how much time we spend together, we still have things to talk about and have endless fun. When I’m not with Libby, I look forward to seeing her. Though she is the first person to try to tell you she’s not funny, she makes me laugh all the time. She is somebody who I can be completely myself around. She also makes me a better person and has helped me to discover and pursue my future aspirations. She helps me live a happy, fulfilling life.

Dream vacation (or 1st anniversary trip)?

Well, since we started school 4 days after the wedding, we will be taking a honeymoon trip to Seaside, Florida in March. In the future, we honestly want to travel all over the world. We had a conversation the other day about which location we would like to see the most and absolutely could not decide.

Favorite thing about married life so far?

We’ve had a lot of fun making our apartment feel like home and using all of our new kitchen gadgets to cook up some delicious meals together.

What’s next as a couple?

Derek just started Physical Therapy school at UAB and I will finish my Masters in Public Health in May and go on to medical school in the fall. So for a while, we will be doing a lot of studying! Oh, and lots of Thank You notes!

What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding?

Don’t worry about the small stuff, because no one else will either. Just have a fabulous time, enjoy every second, and dance so much that your feet hurt the next morning!
